Capping off the 2022 K League 1 review is a look at the strikers.

Goals

Ultimately, strikers will be judged on how many goals they score. Luckily for Cho Gue-sung of Jeonbuk, he scored 17 to win the golden boot. Jeju United's Joo Min-kyu also scored 17 but did so in more games - 37 to Cho's 31 - and so finishes runner-up in the race to be K League's 'goal king'. Behind Cho and Joo is Oh Hyeon-gyu who, like Cho, began the campaign with Gimcheon. Oh scored 13 to finish third among the strikers and fourth overall.

1. Cho Gue-sung, Gimcheon Sangmu/Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors - 17 (1st overall)
2. Joo Min-kyu, Jeju United - 17 (2nd overall)
3. Oh Hyeon-gyu, Gimcheon Sangmu/Suwon Samsung Bluewings - 13 (4th overall)

Headed goals

The archetypical striker - certainly the number nines of the division - will be expected to score the odd header. Jeju's Joo Min-kyu scored the most - both as a striker and overall - with seven, with Suwon Bluewings duo Oh Hyeon-gyu and An Byong-jun, Pohang's Heo Yong-jun, and Jeonbuk's Gustavo all joint third with five.

1. Joo Min-kyu, Jeju United - 7 (1st overall)
2. Oh Hyeon-gyu, Suwon Samsung Bluewings - 6 (2nd overall)
3. An Byong-jun, Suwon Samsung Bluewings - 5 (3rd overall)
3. Heo Yong-jun, Pohang Steelers - 5 (Joint 3rd overall)
3. Gustavo, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors - 5 (Joint 3rd overall)

Goals from corners

When your team has a corner, you're going to be looking to your out-and-out strikers to make the most of the set-piece opportunity. Five different players all managed to score three goals from corners in K League 1 last season, all of whom you would say are proper number nines.

1. An Byong-jun, Suwon Samsung Bluewings - 3 (1st overall)
1. Leonardo, Ulsan Hyundai - 3 (Joint 1st overall)
1. Martin Adam, Ulsan Hyundai - 3 (Joint 1st overall)
1. Oh Hyeon-gyu, Suwon Samsung Bluewings - 3 (Joint 1st overall)
1. Stanislav Iljutcenko, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors/FC Seoul - 3 (Joint 1st overall)

Expected Goals (xG)

The relatively new and trend phenomena that is expected goals or xG for short. Jeju's Joo Min-kyu scored 17 as this is what was expected from him with an xG of 17.25. Cho Gue-sung's xG was 15.56 which means with 17 goals scored he outscored his expected goals value. Leonardo of Ulsan came in third with an xG of 14.14.

1. Joo Min-kyu, Jeju United - 17.25 (1st overall)
2. Cho Gue-sung, Gimcheon Sangmu/Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors - 15.56 (2nd overall)
3. Leonardo, Ulsan Hyundai - 14.14 (3rd overall)

Assists

The modern striker likes to lay on assists too. They could shoot; they may have every right to have a pop themselves but sometimes a teammate might just be in a better position to tuck the ball away. No fewer than three strikers in K League 1 last season all ended the campaign level with seven assists - the most among the strikers, namely Lars Veldwijk of Suwon FC, Daegu FC's Zeca, and Cho Young-wook of FC Seoul also provided seven, and Jeju's Joo Min-kyu laid on six.

1. Lars Veldwijk, Suwon FC - 7 (4th overall)
1. Zeca, Daegu FC - 7 (Joint 4th overall)
1. Cho Young-wook, FC Seoul - 7 (Joint 4th overall)
2. Joo Min-kyu, Jeju United - 6 (9th overall)

Shots

Of course, to score you have to shoot and if you have more shots then that increases your chances of scoring. This seemed to be the approach for Seongnam FC's Fejsal Mulić with 100, Jeju's Joo Min-kyu with 97, and Jeonbuk's Cho Gue-sung with 96.

1. Fejsal Mulic, Seongnam FC - 100 (1st overall)
2. Joo Min-kyu, Jeju Unuted - 97 (2nd overall)
3. Cho Gue-sung, Gimcheon Sangmu/Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors - 96 (5th overall)

Percentage of shots on target

It would help, of course, if the shots are on target. So which of the strikers in K League had the best shooting accuracy last year? Gustavo of Jeonbuk Hyundai was top overall and among the strikers with 57.41% of all his shots hitting the target. An Byong-jun was next with 52.78% and fifth overall while Leonardo of Ulsan was third with 47.76% or eight overall.

1. Gustavo, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors - 57.41% (1st overall)
2. An Byong-jun, Suwon Samsung Bluewings - 52.78% (5th overall)
3. Leonardo, Ulsan Hyundai - 47.76% (8th overall)
