2023 Hana 1Q K League 2 Round 15 Preview

league 2023.05.25   I   조회수 435

The long weekend in Korea coincides with the 15th round of K League 2 action, with games spanning from Saturday to Monday. Seongnam FC vs FC Anyang looks set to be the tie of the round as two of division's highest scoring sides look to maintain their promotion push. Meanwhile, Ansan Greeners beware as they play host to K League 2's current form side Seoul E-Land, while Busan IPark's 23-year-old Kim Chan looks set to be the player to watch after his Nakdong Derby heroics last time out. All this and more in your guide to Hana 1Q K League 2 Round 15.

Match of the Round

Seongnam FC vs FC Anyang

Saturday evening sees promotion hopefuls Seongnam FC and FC Anyang meet in Tancheon as both look to maintain their solid recent records. The Magpies have lost just once in their last nine league outings and are one of just four teams in the division to have surpassed 20 goals this season with a quarter of them attributed to recently signed striker Christy Manzinga. However, they were made to taste defeat midweek as they fell to first division opponents Pohang Steelers in the FA Cup and will be looking to bounce back this weekend.

Already out of the cup, FC Anyang have had a full week to rest after their victory over Jeonnam Dragons last Saturday. The Violets are flying high in second, two points off leaders Gimpo and have scored the most goals this campaign, perhaps understandably so given that they have also recorded the second highest number of shots in the division.

Saturday will be the tenth meeting of these two sides across all competitions, with Seongnam winning four to Anyang's two. However, one of those two wins was their previous meeting this season finishing 2-0. Will the home side be able to enact the revenge this weekend?

Team of the Round

Seoul E-Land

With ten points from their last four outings, Seoul E-Land have the strongest form in the division heading into weekend, with further evidence of their credentials on show after an impressive 2-0 win against a Bucheon FC 1995 side that had won their four matches prior.

Park Choong-kyun's Leopards may have started the season slowly as they fought to come to grips with a new manager, new signings, new tactics, and a sizable injury list. However, as their unavailable players have become fewer, and the manager has been able to implement his style, the results are now beginning to show, which has seen them climb up from the depths of the division to 8th in the table. They've had to dig deep for results as well, coming back from setbacks to overcome Gyeongnam and Cheonan, as well as fend off league leaders Gimpo FC with just ten men to hold onto a goalless draw.

The weekend sees them take on an Ansan Greeners side in 11th place that has just recorded two wins all season and has conceded six in their last two outings with no reply. When these two sides met in April, Seoul E-Land ran out 4-1 winners despite being reduced to ten men early in the second half. Can the Leopards maintain their strong from on Sunday?

Player of the Round

Busan IPark's Kim Chan

Having only recently returned to the starting lineup at Busan, 23-year-old attacker Kim Chan made his comeback known to supporters in last weekend's Nakdong Derby, scoring both goals to see off the Royals' local rivals Gyeongnam FC. In his five league appearances for the campaign, Kim has scored three and assisted one, already surpassing his tally from last season, and has maintained his record of his side never losing when on the scoresheet.

Kim's opener at the weekend was a rocket, unleashed from 25 yards, that continued lifting all the way into the back of the net, leaving the 'keeper helpless. His second, meanwhile, saw him leap high to meet Park Se-jin's cross and head in what would prove to be the match winner. It was also the first time Kim has scored twice in a game.

With Busan set to face a Chungnam Asan side that, despite struggling, has only conceded 14 times, they will be hoping Kim Chan can continue his scoring touch into the weekend.

Elsewhere in K League 2 Round 15

Elsehwere in K League 2 sees Jeonnam Dragons kick off the weekend at home to Cheonan City with the Dragons looking to bounce back from defeat last weekend and also in the FA Cup midweek. Meanwhile Cheonan will be hoping to take advantage of tired legs as they continue in their pursuit of their first win of the season.

At the same time, Chungbuk Cheongju will be hoping to extend their recent unbeaten streak to four as the face a Gyeongnam FC side currently out of sorts.

The final match of this round takes place on Monday to take advantage of the public holiday, with Bucheon FC 1995 looking to bounce back from defeat at home to a Gimcheon Sangmu side that has drawn their last three outings.

League leaders Gimpo FC, meanwhile, do not play this weekend and will look on at how the matches of their title rivals play out.
